Welcome to Mentone Pre School

We are a sessional kindergarten owned and run by our community.

We provide high-quality, play-based and open-ended educational programs that celebrate each child's individuality.

We value every child’s right to play in an inclusive, warm and nurturing environment.

We recognise and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land, on which our children learn and play.

We are a Child Safe organisation.

Our play-based approach includes a Bush Kinder option in 4 year old kinder, so children can play, learn and explore.

  • Full days

Receive 15 hrs & full-day sessions for our government funded 3YO and 4YO sessional kindergarten programs.

Our Pre School

The Pre School is conveniently tucked away in the heart of Mentone, with easy access by train, bus and car. Step behind the private entrance to see our wonderful play space that extends into an expansive garden playground with native fauna, play equipment, an outdoor "mud kitchen", and a pond.

We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and all Elders past, present and emerging and recognise this land, “always was and always will be Aboriginal land.”

We acknowledge the Boonwurrung People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land on which we learn, work and play. We also acknowledge that the Boonwurrung People of this land maintain their knowledge through an oral tradition practiced for generations. We value building and celebrating knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples culture, history and connection to country.

Our curriculum proudly incorporates the rich history of the First Peoples as well as exploring the diverse cultures that constitute our community.

Bush Kinder

Bush Kinder is held at beautiful Braeside Park.

A mounting body of evidence suggests that outdoor activities in a natural environment benefit children's health, well-being and development.

Children can find abundant wildlife (cockatoos, caterpillars, rabbits, ducklings, a possum and a tawny frogmouth) and love running, climbing and jumping.

They've even built a 'campfire' and made 'Wombat Stew' - without the wombat!

Our Child Safety Commitment statement

At Mentone Preschool, the Educators, Committee and Parents are committed to the rights of all children to feel safe, and to be safe at all times.

We work hard to meet child safe standards, to ensure child safety, health and wellbeing is embedded right throughout our service, and to provide a safe environment for all children, including Aboriginal children and their families.

We actively promote the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, the cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and the safety of children with additional needs.

We acknowledge and value the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child, and the fundamental importance of equity, diversity and inclusiveness in our community.

Safe and inclusive environments for all children are created, encouraging them to actively participate, to have a voice and share their ideas, and to learn, grow and develop. It is through our policies and procedures, adhering to the Reportable conduct scheme, education, professional learning, reflective practice and positive action, that enables us to act in the best interests of every child.

We have a zero tolerance approach to child abuse, harm, racism and gender inequality.
